Missions & Outreach

St. Mark's supports mission efforts through various avenues. We sponsors two missionaries. The Kalangwa's are in Tanzania and Diane Wimberley is in Bolivia.
In the aftermath of Hurricanes Rita and Katrina, St. Mark's has sent ten teams to help with repairs. They have gone to Beaumont, Port Arthur, Sabine Pass, Santa Fe, Galveston, the Bolivar Peninsula, and San Leon. The work has consisted of everything from cutting trees to help finish homes being repaired through UMCOR.

St. Mark's has participated in Conference mission projects such as remodeling the churches at Teague and Mission Milby.
Teams have also gone to Christian Alliance and Medical Bridges to help sort and pack materials for their distribution. We have also hosted the African Children's Choir several times.
St. Mark's UMC has also sent out mission teams through Partners in Missions for a number of years. The 2010 trip was to Belize. In 2009 a group went to Muskogee, OK to work with the Oklahoma Indian Missionary Conference. In 2008 a team went to Puerto Rico.
The Local Missions group has been very active. In addition to collecting funds for a wide variety of mission needs, they have involved a large number of the congregation in activities improving the community and helping organizations that provide services to the poor.
